There is only one more thing to do… Get really, really excited for it all starting next week!
Since my last blog, a lot has been happening. For a start, I finally got my lovely Clyde-sider uniform!
A few weeks ago, I travelled down to Glasgow from Aberdeen to go to the Uniform and Accreditation Centre located Kelvin Hall in the West End of Glasgow for a quick fitting of my uniform and to collect my accreditation pass.
When I first arrived in Glasgow, I could feel the excitement in the city straight away! Walking up Buchanan Street and seeing the Commonwealth Games opening hours in shop windows, visiting “The Big G” in George Square and seeing all the banners up around the city gave me such a great feeling to know that I will be part of this very special occasion in my home city.
On entering Kelvin Hall to collect my uniform and accreditation pass, the buzz around this spectacular building was also huge. I had the opportunity to meet with some of my fellow volunteers and talk about the roles we would be undertaking throughout the Games while waiting for our chance to be fitted.
We received enough clothing to last for the two-week period as well as hat, water bottle, two bags with a cagoule and umbrella (just in case!).
As well as receiving my uniform and pass, I also received my venue specific training which included a tour of the SECC precinct where I will be based as well as finding out more about our day-to-day tasks.
Now that my training is complete and I am armed with my uniform and pass, there is only one more thing to do… Get really, really excited for it all starting next week!
I’ll let you know how I get on as the games progress!
