Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) is pleased to announce that The Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (APAGBI) will today (13th May) bring their 42nd Annual Scientific meeting to the venue, which runs until the 15th May.
The event runs jointly with the U.S. Society for Paediatric Anaesthesia (SPA), an American association that focuses on the safety and quality of anaesthetic care. This year is the first time that the conference has been held in the City and around 400 delegates are expected to attend.
The conference features speakers from the U.S. and Europe, offering parallel streams and workshops, which provide delegates plenty of learning opportunities for all anaesthetists with a paediatric interest. The topics will cover the breadth of paediatric anaesthetic practice from thoracic anaesthesia to revalidation, with views from both sides of the Atlantic. There are also innovative problem solving sessions, sessions devoted to foreign charity work, trauma and quality improvement.
Chair of the APA Local Organising Committee, Dr Graham Wilson of Aberdeen Royal Children’s Hospital said: “I am very pleased to be lead local organiser for this event. The conference will concentrate on comparing and contrasting the anaesthetic care of children on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as other parts of the world, through a session on charitable support of health services in the developing world. There will be sessions reviewing best practice in trauma care, thoracic surgery and managing challenging situations, as well as a number of innovative workshops. Aberdeen is an ideal venue for this meeting as the oil industry and health care are both reliant on a safety culture. These links will also be explored during this meeting.”
APAGBI Treasurer, Alistair Cranston, said: “The Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (APAGBI) look forward to welcoming delegates to our 42nd Annual meeting at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre in the sparkling Granite City; with a great scientific and social programme taking place across the Region. Aberdeen City and Shire offers delegates everything from crumbling castles to pristine beaches, all with Scottish hospitality – this is a conference you don’t want to miss!”
Director of Sales and Marketing at AECC, Louise Lonie, said: “We are delighted to welcome the APAGBI annual meeting to AECC; we look forward to hosting this great medical conference after the success of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland which was held in November last year. We look forward to giving the international delegates travelling to the City from the US and Europe, as well as those based within the UK, a warm Scottish welcome.”
