The Role:  Exhibition Sales Manager

Reporting to: Head of Sales, Marketing, Exhibitions and Entertainment

KEY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for identifying and approaching prospective exhibition organisers with a view to bringing new events to Aberdeen
  • Producing fully costed proposals and bids in order to secure new business
  • Work closely with existing clients to develop and grow existing content/revenue
  • Work closely with operations to maximise exhibition revenue through additional services
  • Responsible for devising and implementing a Sales Plan to meet agreed targets in exhibition sales
  • Assist with the setting of strategy and annual budgets for exhibition sales
  • Monitoring and analysing the sales targets across the exhibition market and implementing remedial actions
  • Work proactively to retain and further develop relationships with a number of key accounts
  • Actively promoting the venue, conducting presentations, client entertaining, networking and site visits
  • Ensuring that all sales are accurately contracted and invoiced, liaising with Finance to ensure receipt of payments
  • Maintain relationships with clients by providing support, information, and guidance; researching and recommending new opportunities; recommending profit and service improvements
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing industry publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking best practices and participating in industry steering groups and/or boards
  • Work collaboratively with PR & Marketing on all market sector campaigns and promotions

Knowledge & Qualifications

Detailed understanding of the local, regional and national exhibition and event sector

Skills

  • Proactive and energetic approach to sales, target driven
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Good business sense the ability to be strategic
  • Initiative and enthusiasm
  • Excellent communication
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure

Experience

  • Proven experience in sales/account management, proposal writing and delivering high level presentations
  • A proven track record of achieving targets and developing business
  • Exhibition/Event industry experience would be desirable

  • Monitoring and analysing the sales targets across the conference and association market and implementing remedial actions
  • Identifying and targeting potential customers
  • Work proactively to retain and further develop relationships with a number of key accounts
  • Actively promoting the venue, conducting presentations, client entertaining, networking and site visits
  • Ensuring that all sales are accurately contracted and invoiced, liaising with Finance to ensure receipt of payments
  • Awareness of trends and propose ideas to build the range and quality of conference and association events
  • Maintain relationships with clients by providing support, information, and guidance; researching and recommending new opportunities; recommending profit and service improvements
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information
  • Monitor the progress of sales enquiries and chase contracts to conclusion, ensuring that sales procedures are adhered to
  • Work collaboratively with PR & Marketing on all market sector campaigns and promotions

EBMS is the company wide system that will manage the client and event database.  The role is to ensure the maintenance of the system, training of the users and best practices are driven by the system.

 

Main Responsibilities

 

  • General maintenance of EBMS documenting and analysing user requirements
  • Interface between Key Users and the software providers
  • Applying solutions/patches/upgrades
  • Chairing regular meetings with the Key User group
  • Other IT – Online Shop, Intranet, Time Recording system
  • Encourage and disseminate best practice
  • Audit and challenge departments to maintain quality
  • Updating user guides

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Systems administration experience essential
  • Planning and delivery of training
  • Prior project management experience beneficial

Experience

  • General IT literacy (particularly of Microsoft Office products)
  • Familiarity with database structures
