Main Responsibilities:

  • To proactively secure new national and international conference and association business, as well as proactive account management of existing clients
  • Proactively deliver new business opportunities by identifying prospects in the national and international conference and association market
  • Responsible for devising and implementing a Sales Plan to meet agreed targets in these areas
  • Assist with the setting of strategy and annual budgets for national and international conference and association market
  • Monitoring and analysing the sales targets across the national and international conference and association market and implementing remedial actions
  • Identifying and targeting potential customers by phone calls, with a focus on securing meetings to discuss event requirements in more detail
  • Work proactively to retain and further develop relationships with a number of key accounts
  • Actively promoting the venue, conducting presentations, attending trade shows, client entertaining, networking and site visits
  • Ensuring that all sales are accurately contracted and invoiced, liaising with Finance to ensure receipt of payments
  • Attending face to face meetings with clients across the UK, travelling at least once per month.
  • Awareness of trends and propose ideas to build the range and quality of conference and association  events
  • Maintain relationships with clients by providing support, information, and guidance; researching and recommending new opportunities; recommending profit and service improvements
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information
  • Monitor the progress of sales enquiries and chase contracts to conclusion, ensuring that sales procedures are adhered to
  • Work collaboratively with PR & Marketing on all market sector campaigns and promotions

The Role:   To maximise the AECC’s planned sales growth by identifying, researching and qualifying new association conference leads.  Proactively initiate new business leads to be developed by the sales team in line with key sector strands.

Reporting to:   Head of Sales – Conferences, Meetings and Banqueting

Main Responsibilities:

  • Undertake desk research into new and potential business on behalf of the Sales Team using AECC’s in house database along with other data sources such as news articles, publications and ICCA database to provide qualified sales leads
  • Call potential clients to arrange client meetings and introductions with the AECC sales team
  • Manage the AECC’s future sales pipeline, adding opportunity events and attainable business to be targeted
  • With the sales team, work in conjunction with AECC partners such as VisitAberdeenshire, Visit Scotland, local Universities and research institutes to identify key academics and ambassadors to take conferences bids forward
  • Support the sales team with maintaining strong working relationships with existing and new clients to bring new business to Aberdeen
  • Assist with the organisation of familiarisation trips and site inspections hosted by AECC, researching potential association clients to view the facilities, and the destination as a whole, providing them with a better insight into what the venue and city can offer
  • To update and maintain a database of appropriate ambassadors who will be influential in our efforts to bid for new business
  • Input client data, correspondence and new business into EBMS – AECC’s event management system – and CRM systems for effective management of all events

Person Specifications:

  • Must be PC literate in Word, Excel, Outlook and have a working knowledge of using database programs such as Access or similar
  • Knowledge and understanding of the industry an advantage
