DEVEX European Production and Development Conference is designed for geologists, geo-physicists, petro-physicists, reservoir engineers, petroleum engineers, production technologists, well engineers and drilling engineers. As a key knowledge-sharing event for the oil and gas industry, leaders will pass on their experience and knowledge of innovation and entrepreneurialism in the sector throughout the event.

DEVEX is run jointly by the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain (PESGB), the Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and the Aberdeen Formation Evaluation Society (AFES) and is a two-day conference and exhibition which takes place annually in Aberdeen.

Following on from the successful DEVEX Conference held annually at AECC in May, this week saw the presentation of The Gert De Jonge Award and Prize Giving.

‘The Gert De Jonge Award’ was created in 2010 after the untimely death of DEVEX 2005’s Chairman, in recognition of his contribution to DEVEX.  This is awarded to the Conference’s best paper. Presenting the prizes on behalf of Chevron, Peter Fowler said: “Gert was one of the founders of Devex and a former chair of the SPE Aberdeen Section. It is an honour for me to attend this presentation and make these awards in his memory.”

Mark Hayes of RPS Group was awarded the ‘Gert De Jong Award’ for Best Paper and a prize of £250 for his presentation entitled “Why can’t I get my Reserves Right?”

The Best Academic presentation and a prize of £500 went to Matt Hutchinson of the University of Aberdeen for his paper “The use of Spectral Gamma Ray to Enhance Lithological and Palaeoenvironmental Resolution within the Skagerrak Formation, Central North Sea”.

Finally, the Best Poster award and the £250 prize were awarded to Simon Shaw of ConocoPhillips for his poster “The Jasmine Field: Ocean Bottom Node Seismic Acquisition over the Jasmine Field, UK Central North Sea.”

Brian Horsburgh, AECC’s Managing Director, commented: “We would like to congratulate each of the winners for the honour of their win.  The DEVEX Conference this year celebrated its 10th year in Aberdeen and is beneficial to those in the European Production and Development industry.”
