Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) continue to invest in staff development and training as part of the Company’s commitment to Health and Safety and provision of excellent service to its clients.
Recently eight staff members achieved Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safely at Events and Exhibitions qualifications. Over 40% of AECC’s full-time staff hold this qualification, as well as a number of Managers holding the National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) NEBOSH Certificate demonstrating the high level of commitment in providing a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone passing through the Venue’s doors. Earlier this year the HSE Manager for the Venue also qualified, with Credit, in the NEBOSH Certificate in Construction Health and Safety as well as the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management.
The principles of IOSH and NEBOSH tie in with AECC’s commitment to sustainability and working within an environment which is safe and healthy for all staff, clients and visitors to the Venue.
As the only Chartered body for health and safety professionals in the world, IOSH are world leaders in health and safety training aiming to raise standards and regulate the profession worldwide.
Brian Horsburgh, AECC’s Managing Director commented: “Staff development and training is critical to a business like AECC, where it really is our people who make the Venue what it is. Investing in training in this area provides a safe and sustainable business in which clients can run their events with the peace of mind that every visitor will be entering a safe environment.”
Fiona Mann, Director of Operations and Safety at AECC, said: “Our Health and Safety Mission Statement is ‘to go beyond mere compliance with the law to achieve a positive health and safety culture that genuinely adds value to the service we supply to our customers’. The training of a high percentage of staff in IOSH and NEBOSH is of paramount importance to the sustainability of the ongoing health and safety culture and supports our Mission Statement. Tools such as IOSH training and working with the Association of Event Venues in developing and working to the standards laid out in the eGuide mean that clients are assured of a safe environment when holding their event at AECC.”
