AECC has recently been named as a finalist in the TREND, Life With Style Awards in the category for  ‘Lasting contribution to North-east lifestyle scene’.

From the initial opening of the doors in 1985 AECC quickly established itself as the top conference venue the North of Scotland and since then has went from strength to strength. In 1990 the venue transformed itself into an entertainment venue, which in turn transformed the city into a live entertainment destination when iconic Scottish band Wet Wet Wet took to the stage of the AECC Arena on March 3rd 1990.

Since then, the venue has seen over 220 global acts grace the stage including Rod Stewart, Lady Gaga, Elton John and Dolly Parton. As well as entertainment, team AECC understand the diversity of the local population in the North-east and work hard to ensure the venue is utilised and catered for in multi cultural events and activities. This has included religious celebrations, theatrical and educational performances and schools.

Looking to the future, AECC are working towards the new venue opening in 2019, which will catapult Aberdeen into an event destination to rival the top in Britain. The new venue will allow the North-east to compete with larger venues in Scotland by taking the capacity for an all seated show from 4, 000 to 10, 000. The entertainment market will see a huge boost as the new venue will be able to accommodate more shows, more often as there will be less turnaround time needed between shows.

The existing AECC has become an iconic landmark in the region and has instilled many positive memories for the people of the city. AECC is a venue run by the people of Aberdeen for the people of Aberdeen and this is something that is enthralled throughout the company and is something that will remain in years to come.

The successful finalists will be announced at an awards ceremony at Ardoe House Hotel & Spa, Aberdeen on Thursday 16th June.
