Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) in collaboration with local academics from University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University and industry representatives are pleased to announce that ‘3DTV Conference: Vision Beyond Depth’ (3DTV-CON) will be held at the Centre on the 7th – 9th October 2013.

3DTV-CON aims to bring together researchers and developers from academia and industry with diverse experience and activity in distinct yet complementary areas to discuss the development of next generation 3D broadcast technologies, 3D imaging and measurement, and its applications. The conference covers a broad range of disciplines: imaging and computer graphics, signal and image processing, telecommunications, electronics and optics.

The conference will consist of plenary and invited talks and special and regular sessions on specific conference themes. The meeting is to be technically sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and further supported by associated societies and industry partners.  Professionals working in these areas are cordially invited to participate at 3DTV-CON 2013.

As part of the new Visit Scotland National Bid Fund, 3DTV-CON was one of the first conferences to be awarded subvention funding, which was match-funded by VisitAberdeen.

The conference will be chaired by Professor John Watson from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland and Professor Levent Onural of Bilkent University, Turkey.  Professor Watson commented:  “I am honoured to be part of 3DTV-CON 2013 and am delighted that its first venture to the United Kingdom is to Aberdeen, the heart of Europe’s oil and gas industry. 3D Technologies are beginning to play a crucial role in the Energy Industry both in its traditional oil and gas activities, and in the blossoming renewable Energy Sector. The innovations born in 3DTV broadcasting are migrating into instrumentation both for subsea and surface applications.”

He added; “Such technologies provide a unique opportunity for innovators in the energy industry. 3DTV-CON will be a valuable forum for businesses, engineers and academics to engage with the wider 3D vision community. We hope to attract delegates from the whole spectrum of 3D research and development from image capture, data compression, transmission, and display through to industrial applications”.

Brian Horsburgh, AECC’s Managing Director, commented: “We are delighted that the 3DTV international committee has chosen Aberdeen and AECC as their location for the 2013 Conference.  This news follows on from our Experts’ Evening held at the Venue last week, which highlighted the range of services on offer from Aberdeen and the Centre, and the support available to academics and societies bringing events into Aberdeen, including our fantastic PCO service which is being utilised by 3DTV.”

Background Information: The 3DTV-CON series of conferences originated from the EC funded Network of Excellence on 3DTV. The annual conference has been held at various locations over the past six years, with this, the seventh edition of the conference coming to Aberdeen, Scotland.  Previous host countries have included Greece, Turkey, Finland and Switzerland.
